Diet Review: The Cambridge Diet
The Cambridge Diet is a popular very low calorie diet (VLCD) that has a large number of followers throughout the UK. While this particular weight loss plan hasn’t seen nearly the same level of popularity in the United States, this is still a viable weight loss and diet option for the morbidly obese.
This is a diet that isn’t for losing those last few pounds, but one that is designed only for the dangerously overweight. Dieters who are seriously looking at the Cambridge Diet should be on the high level of the BMI scale.
Basically this eating plan is a tiered system that starts out as an extremely low calorie diet in the beginning that only allows 450-600 calories of special Cambridge Diet supplements (shakes, soups, porridge, etc). As the dieter loses more weight, more and more calories are added until the diet becomes a low calorie diet. After enough time the tiers move up to the normal calorie range of a healthy diet.
Before anyone considers going on this diet, there are some important things that dieters need to know. One of the most important aspects of this weight loss plan is professional help and medical supervision. Dieters in the UK on this program have a doctor and expert diet coach to assist. They both check in weekly in order to assure dieters of their health while on this very low calorie diet.
The next major consideration before beginning this weight loss plan is the difficulty of following the strict regiment that this diet demands. This diet in the beginning only allows 450-650 calories a day and not any more. For most dieters, this is going to be an extremely hard total to stick to.
Several controversies still remain around this weight loss plan. Concerns remain around possible muscle loss, crashing metabolism, and the overall just lack of daily calories.
Defenders of this eating plan will point out that it has been used successfully in thousands of different instances. This is a plan that is designed for the heavily obese, and a long track record of success is hard to argue with.
The Cambridge Diet is going to have its fans, and it is going to have its detractors, as well. While arguments and controversy might continue, there is little argument that this weight loss plan can work for badly overweight individuals.
